QazCloud’s 2024 Results: Cloud Technology Development, New Trends, and Market Prospects

Key Trends and Challenges in Cloud Technologies in Kazakhstan and Central Asia in 2024 The past year has been an interesting one for cloud technologies in Kazakhstan and Central Asia. Market competition has intensified, new platforms have emerged, and interest in Open Source solutions has grown significantly. Alongside major international players such as Amazon, Google, VKontakte, and Yandex, local cloud platforms have also been actively developing. This is particularly noticeable in the SME sector, where Open Source technologies are increasingly being adopted, significantly shifting the market balance. Another major trend has been the active construction of data centers. In 2024, numerous large-scale projects were announced, but the actual demand for cloud services does not always align with these ambitious plans. One operator announced the construction of 3,000 racks, while currently, Kazakhstan has about 12,000 racks, with another 6,000 planned in the near future. This imbalance between supply and demand could create challenges in the coming years. At the same time, Kazakhstan remains an attractive hub for cloud technologies for several reasons. Firstly, after restrictions were introduced in Russia, many companies began looking for new locations to store their data, and Kazakhstan, with its access to Western equipment, has become one of the key growth areas. Secondly, Kazakhstan has the most developed infrastructure in the region.
